Tuolumne is located in the northern high country at 8,600 feet elevation with an accessed by Highway 120 that is on Tioga Road. It is known for its open meadows, high-altitude temperatures, granite domes/structures and shelters in comparison to rest of the park. Tuolumne Campground offers over 300 campsites that feature some fire pit, flush toilets, a picnic table and bear lockers. Additionally on-site amphitheater hosts ranger events and programs throughout the summer. A horse camp is also available for the campers at Tuolumne Meadows Campground.

A snack stand, general store, gas station, RV dump station and mountaineering store are also located nearby. Meanwhile directly across the road from the campground are most of Tuolumne’s attractions including Lambert Dome, Parson’s Lodge, Soda Springs, stables and numerous hiking trails.

The stables offer the opportunity for visitors to explore the Tuolumne Meadows region through horseback riding. Heading west along Highway 120 visitors will pass Tenaya Lake which is one of Yosemite’s largest lakes and offers sandy beaches for swimming and picnicking, and plenty of shoreline for fishing. Advantages of camping in Tuolumne include fewer crowds, lesser known but it is an impressive natural site, and provides an easy access to Tenaya Lake.
